2. Meridium presentationsconcise report

In cooperation with schools we prepared 4 meetings, invitations for the meetings were sent to schools, school institutions, journalists and researchers.

On Tuesday, 24 May, we visited Anton Ukmar Primary School in Koper (Markovec), where we also held the first presentation for children and we reminded them about the questionnaire, and we also tested them with question-answer test and various games that are included in the Meridium brochure for children titled Babel and Languages. Children were very active in their responses, since they liked the games. In the afternoon, we held a presentation for the parents and general public, where we presented the results of the research, after the presentation we also talked with the parents about emigration and multilingualism.

On the second day, Wednesday, 25 May, we visited Elvira Vatovec Primary School in Prade, where we also firstly held the presentation for children. They were enthused by the presentation and very active, they liked to cooperate in answering all the set questions. In the afternoon, we held a presentation for the parents and general public, and many representatives of the school responded to our invitation. After presenting the results of the research we added our opinions and observations, since the school had many problems with name calling of foreign children. They told us that the children, that were slandered, had already moved away, however, not due to this reason. Together with the representative of the Institute of Education, Koper unit and the expert worker from the Ljudska univerza Koper we discussed the problems and issues of children of immigrants. Problems that occur at school are resolved as they emerge and they are resolved successfully.

On Thursday, 26 may, we held a presentation at Ciril Kosmač Primary School, however, the time of the presentation was not appropriate for the children, since it was scheduled after they had finished their school obligations (at 3.30 pm). This is why there were not many pupils present. However, those who participated at the presentation were excited about the presentation and answered all our questions. One media representative also participated at this meeting. Not many parents joined the meeting, one parent came to children's presentation, one mother to the presentation that was held for parents, and therefore the project was presented during an informal talk and coffee. This school is a UNESCO school and it also cooperates in coordinating the “Introduction of solutions in the field of migrant integration in implementation curricula – human resources development operative programme for the 2007-2013 period no. CCI 2007SI51PO001” project, therefore the children and parents know the extension of intercultural contacts and cooperation, since every summer this school organises an international summer school and other activities, including learning the language of immigrant children, especially learning Albanese.

On Friday, 27 May, we held the presentation at the last school that participated in the project, namely at Koper Primary School. In the morning, we presented our results to the children, who participated actively. A pilot class of pupils was also invited to the presentation. In the afternoon, we held a presentation for the parents. There were not many present, therefore the presentation was organised mostly as an informal discussion. Koper Primary School, the coordinator of the national project titled “Introduction of solutions in the field of migrant integration in implementation curricula – human resources development operative programme for the 2007-2013 period no. CCI 2007SI51PO001”, within the scope of the coastal schools network project prepares materials for Slovene language for emigrants, consulting strategy of including emigrants in education process and also cooperates with parents.

On 2 April 2010, Koper Primary School organised a consultation on successful integration of migrants in education in the Republic of Slovenia, where Lucija Čok, PhD, presented the project and its theoretical foundations. Her contribution was titled Multilingualism in the Eyes of the Individual and the Society and it attracted the interest of all participants. After the lecture an extensive discussion took place.

Consultation programme and Lecture of Lucija Čok, PhD, is added in annex.

University of Primorska, Science and Research Centre of Koper awarded the confirmations on the cooperation at the Meridium project to all teachers of this pilot sample and experimental sample of pupils, as well as coordinators for presenting seminars.

Certificate sample in annex.
