University of Lisbon
Since its creation in 1977, the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities) is a multidisciplinary unit that promotes diversity of knowledge, creativity and freedom of thought. Teaching and research activities developed at the Faculty ensure scientific training in the different domains of Social Sciences and Humanities.
The Faculty produces a high number of MA and PhD dissertations every year, reinforcing the research and teaching activities. From the 16 research Centres integrating professors and students, 7 have been evaluated as "Excellent" or "Very Good", according to the criteria defined by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (placing it at a leading position in UNL). The high number of international projects in which FCSH participates demonstrates the growing visibility of the research developed in this Institution.
The Centro de Linguística of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (CLUNL) is a research unit that has as its main objectives the advancement of research in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, the development of advanced training of researchers and the promotion of the publication of scientific data in those domains concerned with the nature and functioning of human language and in the areas of description and functioning of individual languages. This unit is financed by FCT and obtained the classification “Excellent” in the last external evaluation it has undergone. CLUNL is engaged in national research projects, funded by FCT or by other institutions, and collaborates in national and international projects with other institutions. At an international level, CLUNL is engaged in European projects and in projects involving other Portuguese speaking countries.
